what does success look like

What does success look like?

Published: 4th November 2026

Every project we take on starts with the same question.

Before we talk about logos, websites or marketing, we ask our clients what success looks like for them.

It sounds simple, and it often gets a puzzled look.

But the answer shapes everything we do afterwards, and in all our years of working with businesses across the UK and internationally, we've never heard the same answer twice.

Why we ask before we do anything else

It would be easy to look at a business, spot what's missing and get straight to work. Plenty of agencies do. The trouble is that a brand built on someone else's assumptions rarely takes a business where its owner wants it to go. We'd much rather understand where you are now, where you want to be in five or ten years and what's been holding you back.

That means listening properly, asking the awkward questions and getting to know your story, your customers and the way your business actually runs day to day. It also means being honest with you. We're not a "yes" team, and if we think the brief is pointing you in the wrong direction, we'll tell you.

Success means something different to everyone

Cotofana Anatomy:

For Cotofana Anatomy, success was building a bespoke global eLearning platform for medical professionals. They needed far more than a website.

The platform had to deliver an expansive learning experience, from online anatomy lessons to CME-credited modules with full course syllabuses, and a corporate membership model that could accommodate large academy teams.

Off-the-shelf course software would have boxed them in, so our team designed and built a fully bespoke digital solution from the ground up. Every part of it was shaped around how Cotofana Anatomy teaches and how their learners study, and it puts the team in complete control. They can add new lessons, launch new modules, create new membership tiers and change how their courses are packaged and priced whenever they choose, without waiting on a developer or working around the limits of someone else's system.

That freedom was the real measure of success. As their offering grows and the needs of medical professionals change, the platform can evolve alongside them, giving them the flexibility to keep expanding their products and serving learners all over the world without limitation.

For Cotofana Anatomy, success meant creating something that could grow with them and serve learners all over the world.

Hosted Aesthetics:

For Hosted Aesthetics, success was creating a unique community brand that would change the game for networking in the aesthetics industry. Their vision was premium national and international events that people genuinely wanted to be part of, so the brand had to feel exclusive and worth showing up for while still making everyone feel welcome.

Getting that balance right took a lot of listening.

Hosted wanted a chic, luxurious tone that would set their events apart from the usual industry gatherings, but they never wanted it to feel cold or out of reach.

At its heart, Hosted is about people coming together, sharing knowledge and building real relationships. So we created a brand that's totally their own.

The look is refined and confident, with a polished, high-end feel that tells guests they're stepping into something special. The tone of voice is warm and inviting, so the community feels open to everyone it was built for.

From invitations and event materials to social media and the experience on the night, every touchpoint carries the same feeling of luxury with a genuine sense of belonging.

For Hosted Aesthetics, success meant creating a brand with all the polish of a luxury event that still felt like home to the community Hosted set out to build.

Norfolk Medical Aesthetics:

For Norfolk Medical Aesthetics, success was relaunching a brand built on a real commitment to inclusivity. Their core values were about welcoming every patient with openness and friendliness and giving them a sense of community. The brand needed to make people feel that from the very first click or visit, long before they sat in the treatment chair.

We worked closely with the Norfolk Medical Aesthetics team from the start, spending time with them to understand what they believe in, how they care for their patients and why inclusivity matters so much to them. Those conversations shaped every decision we made.

Together we created a visual language that's entirely their own. It celebrates the individuality of the people who walk through their door, reflecting the personalities, identities and characters of a diverse patient community, including the LGBTQ+ community the clinic is proud to welcome. Bold, expressive and full of warmth, it tells every patient that they belong here and can come exactly as they are.

For Norfolk Medical Aesthetics, success meant giving their business a brand they could stand behind, one that welcomes everyone and tells their story exactly as they'd tell it themselves.

Three very different businesses, with three very different definitions of success.

Your brand is how your business grows

When people hear the word brand, they often picture a logo.

A logo matters, but it's only one small part of the picture. Your brand is the foundation of your business. It's the reason customers choose you, the way your team talks about what you do and the feeling people are left with after every interaction. When it feels the same at every touchpoint, people remember you, trust you and come back, and in time they start recommending you to others.

That's why we look at the whole business.

We look at how your website guides people towards booking or buying, whether your marketing is bringing a genuine return, and where time is being lost to manual tasks that could be automated. A strong brand with a clunky customer journey still leaves money on the table. Pulling all of it together is what makes a business more efficient and better placed to grow.

Building for sustainable growth

Most of the business owners we work with aren't looking for a quick fix.

They want something that will carry them through the next stage, whether that's opening a second site, launching a new service, raising prices or reaching an international audience.

We design with the future in mind as well as the present.

  • Sometimes that means building in room to scale, like a membership model or a platform that can take on new courses.
  • Sometimes it means positioning a business for the market it wants to be in rather than the one it's in today.
  • Sometimes it means helping owners realise it's okay to be brave with their brand, because the businesses that stand out are rarely the ones playing it safe.

This is also why we believe a brand needs real people behind it. AI can produce a logo in seconds, but it can't sit with you, understand your ambitions and turn them into something that's totally your own.

What to ask when choosing an agency

When you're looking for someone to help with your brand, it's natural to start with their portfolio. Good work matters. It's worth asking a second question too: have they asked what success means to you?

If the conversation jumps straight to design without understanding your business, your customers and your goals, the end result might look great and still miss the mark.

The right partner will want to know where you're heading and will stay with you as you get there, sharing ideas, challenging thinking and always being on the end of the phone.

So, what does success look like for you?

Maybe you already have a clear goal in mind, or maybe you just sense your brand hasn't kept up with your business.

Either way, we'd enjoy hearing about it.
